The collapse of the Soviet Union, among many other goods, brought that society was freed from artificially constricted ideological frameworks, and it became possible to scientifically study previously taboo issues. This is especially true for analysing the fundamental issues of Christianity and individual churches. Although they were discussed during the Soviet period, they were all very fragmented and significantly ideologised. After the barriers were removed, the research was especially intensified, original or generalised works were created, a number of candidate and doctoral dissertations were defended, church works were translated and published into Georgian, and collections of archival documents were printed.
